The IBM LTO8 data cartridge or the IBM LTO Ultrium 8 Data Cartridge 01PL041 stores up to 12TB in native or uncompressed capacity at speeds up to 360MB/sec, and up to 30TB of compressed data at speeds up to 900MB/sec. These IBM LTO8 tapes can therefore store up to 1.38TB per hour native/uncompressed or up to 3.24TB per hour compressed. The IBM LTO 8 tape cartridge continues the use of Barium Ferrite (BaFe) particles which improves reliability, longevity and density. The IBM LTO8 tape cartridges 01PL041 are the Generation 8 tapes and are only exceeded in size and speed by LTO9 data cartridges.

IBM LTO CARTRIDGE STORAGE:
To prevent condensation and for long life, the IBM LTO 5 Ultrium Data Cartridges should only be operated in or stored in the following conditions.

IBM LTO CARTRIDGE OPERATING ENVIRONMENT:
10-45 degrees Celsius/Centigrade and 20-80% Humidity

IBM LTO CARTRIDGE STORAGE ENVIRONMENT:
16-35 degrees Celsius/Centigrade and 20-80% Humidity

IBM LTO CARTRIDGE HANDLING:
Handle the IBM LTO Ultrium cartridge carefully. It may be damaged or degraded if it is dropped. Labels should be placed on the front side of the cartridge in the recessed area. Do not put labels anywhere else on the cartridge as this can damage the drive or cause load errors. When not in use IBM LTO cartridges should be stored and transported in their plastic clam-shell case. Do not store cartridges in direct sunlight.
