What should I buy to help secure my laptop while doing fieldwork?

Kensington lock systems enable you to prevent someone from swiping and running away with your notebook by keeping it fastened to a non-moving or heavy structure via a cut-resistant cable. Laptop locks like these typically come with a key, but some models come with a combination lock instead.

 

What should I consider when buying one of Dell's universal docking stations?
 

Your primary consideration should be the type of ports it has and how many of the ports you need are available. For example, take into account connectivity requirements you may need down the road, like support for connecting video and audio devices. Ports that allow you to charge mobile devices are also worthy of consideration. The last thing you should consider is portability and design. Ask yourself whether you need a dock for working outside the office. Think also about how much space it will take up on your table or in your bag.
