Computex 2018 - Daily Roundup #2
8 June 2018
Computex 2018 (Taipei) is underway with brands such as AMD, Phanteks, Lian-Li and many more announcing new products and services.
AMD has announced more CPUs which will be joining their ‘Zen+’ series with second-generation Ryzen Threadripper being the most noteworthy addition. AMD also unveiled the Radeon RX Vega 56 Nano graphics card along with other products.
AMD Ryzen Threadripper (2nd Generation) – High-end CPU
The second generation of AMD’s well renowned Ryzen Threadripper will be available with up to 32-cores (and 64-threads) – doubling the previous generation’s core count. AMD mentioned that the second generation of Ryzen Threadripper will be compatible with motherboards based on the existing X399 chipset. 2nd generation Ryzen Threadripper will have higher clock speeds, ‘Precision Boost II’ (similar to the ‘mainstream’ Ryzen 2000 series CPUs) and other new and improved features.
AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 Nano – Graphics Card
AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 Nano should be viewed as a spiritual successor to the compact previous generation R9 Nano. Radeon RX Vega 56 Nano has a significantly shorter length than the vanilla RX Vega 56 which will improve compatibility in smaller PC cases.
Phanteks announced several new PC cases including an update to the popular Evolv chassis. Phanteks aims to target the value/entry-level market by introducing their new ‘MetallicGear’ sub-brand.
Phanteks Evolv X – PC Chassis
Phanteks Evolv X is an evolution of the popular Evolv chassis. Phanteks have listened to customer and reviewer feedback by improving airflow on the front and top panels and adding hinged tempered-glass side panels. The Evolv X also adds new features such as addressable RGB strips and compatibility for adding a second system in the roof of the chassis.
Phanteks Eclipse P600S – PC Chassis
Along with the Evolv X, Phanteks also announced the Eclipse P600S. Positioned slightly above the popular P400S, the Eclipse P600S shares a lot of interior design choices from the high-end Evolv X including dual-system compatibility. The Eclipse P600S will come with removable noise dampening panels for the front and top panels allowing users to choose between “low-noise” and “high airflow”. The Eclipse P600S is currently a concept and may change by the time of launch.
MetallicGear & NEO Series PC Cases – PC Chassis
Phanteks announced the MetallicGear sub-brand which will focus on creating ‘contemporary, innovative and accessible products for PC hardware enthusiasts’. Four new cases will be joining the launch of the new brand – NEO, NEO Micro, NEO Mini and NEO-G Mini. NEO Series cases all feature a subtle, minimalist design and tempered-glass side-panels. NEO-G Mini supports mini-ITX motherboards and features a vertical GPU mount with 3 expansion slots. NEO, NEO Micro and NEO Mini support ATX, micro-ATX and mini-ITX motherboard respectively.
NEO G Mini
Lian-Li showcased several new PC cases including variants of the popular PC-O11 Dynamic as well as new-to-the-market PC accessories.
Lian-Li PC-O11 Dynamic Designed by Razer – PC Chassis
Building on the positive feedback of the PC-O11 Dynamic chassis, Lian-Li partnered with Razer to develop the PC-O11 Dynamic Designed by Razer Edition. The Razer Edition adds integrated Chroma RGB lighting to the PC-O11’s underside and front trim along with a Razer logo on the glass front panel. The Chroma RGB illumination is controllable with Razer’s Synapse 3 software.
Lian-Li PC-O11 Air – PC Chassis
With the success of the PC-O11 Dynamic, Lian-Li announced the PC-O11 Air which utilizes the frame of the Dynamic but with a top and front-panel that is optimized for airflow. The PC-O11 Air is also equipped with a front-panel USB3.1 Type-C port.
Lian-Li LanCool One – PC Chassis
The announcement of the LanCool One revives the LanCool name and is aimed at the sub $120 market. The LanCool One features a classic mid-tower design with a tempered-glass side-panel along with a breathable PSU shroud for additional airflow.
Lian-Li Strimer RGB cables – PSU cable accessories
Alongside Lian-Li’s announcement of new PC cases, they also showed off their new Strimer RGB PSU cable accessories. These are designed to clip onto individually sleeved PSU cables such as the 24-pin cable and feature RGB LEDs which overlay each cable. Not only does this look fantastic but also gives users the ability to create and use custom animations.
